India got independence in 1947. Yes.. Britisher's rule ended but then people built up different rule books based on caste and communities. Even the "Freedom of Speech" ends at one point of time. No am not talking about India and its culture or even about politics. This is just a story of a girl who suffered in silence for 23 years just to realize that her life would be the same for many more years.
"Dad I want to be an RJ", Nisha told her dad very excitedly. "You don't have that capability or talent to become one. Stop thinking about all this nonsense and concentrate on your studies" replied her dad in a stern tone.
Something died inside her that day... It was the desire to express what she wanted or longed for.
"Dad I don't want to take up engineering" , Nisha told her dad when she was asked to choose between Computers and Engineering. Her dad replied "Either choose or get married and leave my house".
Something died inside her that day... It was the freedom to choose her career.
"Dad I want to travel and this job does exactly that. It is nowhere related to engineering but I'm sure i'll be happy if I pursue this" Nisha pleaded her dad. "You can choose to decide things when I'm no longer in this world. Till I'm alive listen to what I say" came her dad's reply.
Something died inside her that day... It was the happiness she longed for.
"Dad I dont' want to get married so soon. I want to study further and know my true calling" Nisha tried to convince her dad. "You are 23 and this is the age to get married, you can study even after you get married" came the reply.
Something died inside her that day... It was the right to live on her own terms.
"Will you work after marriage? Or will you be a home maker?" questioned Aryan when the so called "alone time" was provided during the match making session. "I want to continue working" Nisha replied politely. "I don't want my wife to work" Aryan declared.
Something died inside her that day... It was the desire to live.
How many of us can relate to Nisha? Am sure many of us. Everyone lives their lives according to different rule books set by different people. Lucky are those who have the "modify" option enabled in these rule books. This journey of life makes us meet many people in every turn we take. Every person differs in thought process from the other. How long can one survive abiding by various rules set by various people?
Sometimes to satisfy others we end up getting suffocated and probably killing a part of us every time we want to satisfy them. Slowly we develop masks that we put on based on the person who we are with. Slowly we start forgetting who we are and what our original persona was. How long can a person be a living corpse?
Ponder on this. Start living for yourself. Make every moment count. Make sure that count goes beyond your ability to remember. Accept the other person the way they are. Everyone is special in their own way. Never be a murderer by killing their persona.
"Stay happy. Live and let live" :)
